We first met Emma and Isaac in 'We'll paint the octopus red', but Isaac is now three, and Emma, nine, and she is finding it hard to be patient with her Down's syndrome brother. Isaac doesn't yet talk, and in his frustration, he can be quite difficult. Emma's parents are learning sign language to help him communicate, and Emma learns the signs for please and thank you and does her best to teach him. But when he doesn't respond, she is impatient and can't understand why. When he clearly shows he has picked up on her teaching, she is pleased and begins to feel real pride in his accomplishment.
