Published by Jessica Kingsley, 2002
Daisy, who has Asperger's syndrome, has just started a new school and has not yet made friends - except for Buster, the class rabbit. She spends most of her time trying to avoid Marissa and her chums, bullies who make life miserable. Daisy gets over-excited very easily and throws tantrums of sorts, often blaming herself over and over for her own reactions. But the teachers at her school are aware of her problems and active in helping her. When she is allowed to take Buster into a quiet area of grass on the playground, she soon begins to make friends, and when it develops she has a talent for training Buster to do tricks, everyone becomes interested. Soon Buster is entered in a talented pet contest, and Daisy must face up to her fears of handling him in front of a crowd because the money she and Buster can win will pay for a carer for Cody, who is wheelchair bound. Then Buster is kidnapped..... There is an exciting denoument and a very happy ending. Daisy really is 'amazing' and this is a super adventure that will be great for Asperger kids as well as their siblings and friends. Some lovely pencil illustrations accompany the story, printed in a large format with enhanced print. Set in California.
